Keeping spreadsheets up to date automatically via Webhooks

Webhooks are an essential component of online softwares, seamlessly relaying data to other services. Webhooks are event-driven and call an endpoint when a specific event occurs. For instance, in Shopify, when a customer makes a purchase from the online store, the event and order details, such as order total, line items, and more, are sent to an endpoint. This mechanism ensures that data is accurately communicated to other systems. Similarly, when a form submission happens in Jotform or Typeform, using Webhooks, form details can be transmitted to another endpoint, ensuring that every submission is captured and processed in real-time.

Events that can trigger Webhook in Shopify

Most online services offer configurable Webhooks that allow businesses and individuals to transfer data efficiently. With Webhooks, businesses and individuals can remove the tedious task of exporting and importing spreadsheets from one software to another, significantly reducing the potential for human error and optimizing efficiency. Webhooks are particularly advantageous for maintaining up-to-date records, automating workflows, and ensuring data integrity across multiple platforms.

In the demo below, we demonstrate how we leverage Shopify’s Order Update Webhook to update a spreadsheet in Airtable, ensuring rows and columns are consistently up-to-date.

Use Case: When an order is created in Shopify, create the order within Airtable including all the details. If an existing order details are updated with Shopify, update the order details within Airtable.

Solution: Shopify's order update Webhook with Airtable. Clouver creates the Webhook to Airtable integration, providing a seamless connection between the two services (Shopify and Airtable).

Results: By automating this process, store merchants can ensure that their data is always up-to-date, enabling better decision-making and streamlined operations.
